Training

There are hundreds of methods for training horses, but only a few core principles lead to true success. These principles are grounded in understanding how horses see and learn in their natural environment. Natural Horsemanship focuses on reading a horse's body language and applying that knowledge to guide and direct them. We have dedicated our lives to mastering this approach, using it to train horses effectively. We are not the horse's equal, nor are they slaves to our every whim. We must be trusted leaders whom the horse is confident and willing to follow.

Horses learn best when encouraged to think independently and thrive when they have a sense of purpose. We hope to instill this philosophy in our students and fellow horse owners. The techniques they use can be applied to any horse, whether a Thoroughbred or a pony, and are equally effective for both youth and adults.

We absolutely love starting young horses—they’re like blank slates with no bad habits, which makes their learning progression much faster. Unfortunately, not all horses have the advantage of a solid foundation. These horses require a fresh restart, where we work to undo bad habits and show them that our way is a much easier path to follow. Although it can be a longer process, our work with BlueBonnet Equine Humane Society rescues and private client rescues has proven that very few horses lack the potential to become safe and willing companions.

We believe that great teachers remain open to learning, and they continue to draw inspiration from respected trainers like Dan James, Mike Major, Clinton Anderson, and Warwick Schiller. We aim to create well-rounded horses that are ready to excel in any direction their owners choose.
